The Spring Festival is our traditional festival, people called the Spring Festival, Chinese New Year. In my hometown of chaozhou, there are some special New Year customs.

在除夕之前,人们都要忙着四件事:谢神、备料做粿、扫舍和买年货。潮俗,每年冬至过后,家里要谢神。备料做“红桃发粿”。是将大米和糯米分别浸于水中几小时,使米质松疏,捞干后于石臼中打成细粉,晒干。这就是做“红桃法粿”的主料。扫舍要选择吉日,是一件不寻常的事。是日,各家主妇最忙,把屋子的里里外外打扫干净,对一些长年少用之物都要清洗。

十二月二十四日,就是传说中的“神上天”之期。是日,家家户户都要拜“糖桃”。一方红纸,上面用软糖摆成一粒桃子的形态,成为“糖桃”。此物沾住“杜王爷”的嘴,让其“上天说好话,落地保平安”。过年还要拜“老爷”,也就是祭神。祭神的祭品有三样:“红桃发粿”、“鼠壳粿”、“菜头粿”。“红桃发粿”就是用绿豆去壳,然后把豆磨成粉,接着蒸熟,做粿馅料。“菜头粿”就是萝卜糕。

过年祭祖,要到除夕日下午。过年,家里已成年有收入的小辈,要给长辈送“压岁钱”,长辈也要对未成年的小辈给“压岁钱”,户户如此,体现了尊老惜幼的美德。

在正月里,潮汕地区都游神祈福的活动,就是把庙里面的神座抬到大街上游行,人们要放鞭炮、烧香、接福。这就是潮州春节的习俗。
