也就是希望全球一千七百万因战争或迫害而逃离家园的难民，也能在一个特殊的日子里被人们记起。

但，这个节日却被人们遗忘了，遗忘了这个节日，就好像遗忘了全球一千七百万难民一样，漠视了他们的存在。

原本在公元2000年，联合国大会决议一致通过，将每年6月20日订为世界难民日，并颁发南森难民奖章，给为援助难民做出卓越贡献的团体与个人，也设定了不同的难民主题，就是为了唤起国际社会对于难民困境更多的关注。
