本次世界肝炎日的主要目的就是提高公众对病毒性性肝炎(包括乙肝和丙肝)的认知，了解病毒性肝炎对公众健康的威胁。“我是第十二个吗?(AmInumber12?)”是第一届世界肝炎日的主题，意指全球大约12个人中就有一个是慢性病毒性肝炎患者(包括乙肝和丙肝)，这些人很可能就在你我的身边，而并未能得到及时的诊断。
